The intensification of environmental crises, increasing pressure on natural resources, and the confrontation with planetary boundaries are driving major ecological shifts in our societies. In this context, the music sector—like the cultural field as a whole—must play a crucial role in mitigating environmental impacts by aligning with national, European, and international reduction targets and regulations. It must also begin its own transformation to adapt to the disruptions ahead, strengthen its resilience in the face of risks, and respond to inevitable changes and shocks.
Music, with its wide-reaching audience and strong capacity to influence, can also serve as an inspiration and a model—helping to shape narratives and foster understanding around the systemic changes that are unfolding and yet to come.
The objectives of this part of the MOOC are to present:
Identify environmental challenges in the music industry and activate concrete levers for transition and resilience.
This module aims to understand the environmental and economic impacts of the music industry in the face of the climate crisis, as well as its potential role as an agent of change.
